Speaker Steve Sansom – A Dementia Friendly Royal Borough
My journey and challenges of making the Royal Borough dementia-friendly

Many of us will have a concern about our brains going wonky as we get older. In other words, dementia. We might be worried about whether it will strike us personally, or we may know a friend or relative who has been so afflicted. Steve Sansom of Age UK will talk to us on ‘Dementia Friendly Royal Borough’ sub-titled ‘My journey and challenges of making the Royal Borough dementia-friendly’. He will show the shocking statistics of the condition and how it is set to spiral. Steve will reveal how Age UK supports the dementia community of RBWM.
Steve says ‘I am 51 years old and have worked with Age UK Berkshire since April 2023. I have a background in dementia support and the health / wellbeing sector of RBWM, via previous roles with Surrey Libraries and Healthwatch East Berkshire. I am married with a stepson and teenage son, and I have also run a mobile disco business for the last 31 years, which keeps me busy at weekends.’
