Coronavirus – 18th March

A message from our Chairman

Further to the Prime Minister’s press conference of 16 March, I regret that all group meetings will be suspended from this weekend and preferably immediately. Technically the under 70s could still meet but this would be somewhat in conflict with government advice that people should work from home wherever possible.

15 of our groups (at least) had in fact already decided to suspend their meetings. The monthly meeting (AGM) at SportsAble of 14 April is also cancelled and this will apply to future monthly meetings until further notice. We will let you know what arrangements we are making for the AGM in due course. Regrettably the outings must also be cancelled until further notice and this will apply to the trip to Devizes of 23 April.

Some groups are already giving thought to how they could continue their activities electronically. I have asked convenors to let me know what you are doing, so we can publish your ideas and hopefully inspire other groups to keep going. We are also investigating how technology could help. As Boris keeps saying “we will get through this”, but in the short term the health of our members and their families is obviously paramount.

Best wishes and look after yourselves.
